Hey there, I’m Richard Hunt, but you can call me Rick. At 53, I’ve found my happy place digging in the dirt of my Lancaster, Pennsylvania backyard, and I’m excited to share my gardening journey with you on SimplyGreenHome. Growing up here, I learned to love gardening at my grandma’s side, planting beans and marigolds in her sunny patch. She’d say, “Rick, every seed’s a little hope,” and that’s stuck with me.

My parents ran a local diner, so I grew up around food, mom’s cornbread and dad’s peach cobbler were unbeatable. That love for fresh flavors shapes my garden. I grow juicy tomatoes for salads, basil for pesto, and peppers for a mean chili. Gardening’s my way of connecting the earth to the table.

I’m all about experimenting, sometimes it’s a bumper crop of zucchini, sometimes it’s a beetle invasion I didn’t see coming. I’ve learned to laugh at the flops and savor the wins, like my first giant butternut squash. My small plot’s a mix of veggies, herbs, and wildflowers for the bees, guided by instinct more than rules. I love early mornings, sipping coffee, watching my garden wake up.
